Position: Part-Time Retail Associate & Cultural Representative
Location: Indigenous Chic – River Park Square
Hours: 12–20 hours/week
Pay: $18–$22/hour DOE

About Indigenous Chic

Indigenous Chic is a Native-owned boutique celebrating modern Native and Indigenous style and the artists who make it. We carry Indigenous and Native-made fashion, beadwork, jewelry, accessories, and other carefully selected goods. We believe modern Native style is for everyone—and we want every customer to leave with a deeper understanding of the beauty, depth, and vibrancy of Native communities today.

Role Summary

We’re looking for someone who is trustworthy, community-minded, detail-oriented, and excited to help build a new Native-owned boutique in downtown Spokane. This person will represent Native artists, educate customers about cultural significance, manage daily operations, and support the store during the busy holiday season.

Key Responsibilities

Cultural Education & Representation

  • Share accurate, respectful knowledge about Native artists, materials, and cultural significance

  • Communicate the story of “modern Native people” in a welcoming, inclusive way

  • Answer questions about Indigenous culture and the items we carry

  • Represent the Native community with integrity and care

  • Help customers understand that “Modern Native Style. For Everyone.”

Customer Service

  • Provide warm, welcoming service rooted in education

  • Help customers find sizes, styles, and artist stories

  • Assist with fittings and try-ons

  • Maintain a clean, beautiful storefront

Operations

  • Open and close the store independently

  • Cash handling and daily reconciliation

  • Follow security procedures (tags, display security, storage)

  • Maintain accurate store appearance

  • Handle returns/exchanges according to policy

Inventory & Merchandising

  • Receive artist deliveries and wholesale shipments

  • Tag, price, and secure merchandise accurately

  • Track inventory for monthly artist reports

  • Help set up displays and seasonal merchandising

  • Identify low-stock items and communicate needs

Social Media

  • Take photos/videos of new arrivals

  • Post 2–4 times per week on Instagram & Facebook

  • Highlight artists, style ideas, and in-store moments

  • Help develop quick reels or stories

  • Engage with customer comments

Brand Alignment

  • Uphold the Indigenous Chic brand tone and values

  • Educate customers on ethical, Native-made sourcing

  • Support community-centered storytelling

Skills and knowledge needed

  • Strong knowledge of the Native community (Spokane-area preferred)

  • Comfortable answering cultural questions respectfully

  • Retail experience preferred, but not required

  • Strong communication skills

  • Able to work independently

  • Trustworthy with cash handling

  • Basic familiarity with social media (IG/FB)

  • Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 40 lbs

Hours & Schedule

  • 12–20 hours/week

  • Must be available some evenings and weekends

  • Increased hours possible during November–December
